THE FACTS/NO REFUND/SCHIZOPHASIA/HARSH SUPPLEMENT "OTTAWA NOISE CRASH" 4 Way Split Tape/Pro-Done (Supplemental Records+Tapes#3) Release date: 2011 ![]() Review: Here we've got a pro-made tape, with glossy paper packaging for this tape harboring 4 indescribably raw and blistering mad canadian noisecore bands. Let's dive in... For starters your ears will receive a brutal noisecore beating fromHarsh Supplement (If I trust the order from the inlay cover...): short, abrupt outbursts, pounding blasts, tuneless guitars with tons of raw-ass distortion and nasty feedback, some wah bleedings, incoherent grunts and shrieks... I was picturing the band members as the South Park floppy head canadian caricature while listening to this, maybe due to the whacky jokey intro... I'm afraid of exposing my lack of noisecore knowledge in doing any comparisons... I'll just mention Deche-Charge as a point of reference! Next up also on the first side of this tape is Schizophasia perpetrating pure noise... Listening to this basically felt like aliens drilling and hammering into your eardrums, implanting an industrial strength-receiver into my skull and using it for all their out of space communications... Nicely textured noises and atmospheres, lots of reverby thumping, noises of paper-tearing, crushing frequencies and maddening fizzling... If you want to get an idea of what completely losing your mind could feel like, you can start there! Side B showcases 2008 material from No Refund which has the most structured and grindcore-like material off this tape (it's not really saying much but still...). Very primal Grind/Noisecore in a very crude rehearsal type recording. Completely atonal and sometimes clearly improvised riffing, the drumming I really love, boasting some nice blasts, d-beats, cool fills and an overall pretty brutal sound, vocals are just a bunch of screaming... The big finish is assured by The Facts which is the most lo-fi sounding of the bunch as well as the harshest and most absurdist, the drum kit sounds like pots and pans, piss-poor guitar sound, vocals are often a bunch of spoken words that end in shouted noisecore punchlines... |
