BRYCC HOUSE CD REVIEWS:
The Brycc House Benefit CD - The Brycc (brick) House is located in Louisville, Ky and has been open since April of 2000. Reading about this facility makes me wish I lived in Kentucky. Very DIY and have amazing facilities, as far as I read about. The music on the CD was very eclectic with a large number of bands/styles of music that seemed to encompass what the Brycc House stands for. Bands included that are noteworthy: De La Hoya, Harum Scarum, Of Asaph, Kung Fu Rick, Chumbawamba, Cobra Kai, Mike Park, and Noam Chomsky. This is one of the better comps I have heard. Highly recommended, not only due to the excellent selection of unreleased/rare tracks from the bands listed about as well as 17 others, but also for what you would be a part of by supporting this venue. (TK) (Punk Planet #49, May/June 2002).
The Brycc House Benefit CD - More important than who plays on this I guess would be who it benefits, The BRYCC House is a youth-run youth center in Louisville, Ky. Kids are always a good cause, and when it's kids who are doing it for themselves, hell it's even better. As one would expect a lot of the bands are regional to the area, but Louisville is a good place to hear up and coming bands, on top of that there are more recognizable acts such as Mike Park, De La Hoya, Chumbawamba, and Noam Chomsky. Do it, for the kids. (KM) (Impact Press #39, June/July 2002)
The Brycc House Benefit CD - Brycc House is a collective run and overrated youth center in Louisville, Ky and this CD is well-rounded sonic benefit for it. Featured are such punx as Harum Scarum, Kung Fu Rick, Cobra Kai, De La Hoya, Bodyhammer, Three Nails For A False Prophet, and spoken word by Noam Chomsky. Good rock. Good cause. Great space, I'd love to see more projects like it popping up around the country - so get to work, kids! (MT)(Maximum Rock N Roll #230)
The Brycc House Benefit CD - A diverse selection of bands that I'm assuming have played the Brycc House, an autonomous youth center in louisville. Twenty-five songs, mostly hardcore and punk. Some light poppy, some groovy emo, and some grind. A very good mix. Submission Hold and Chumbawamba. There is also a little speech by Noam Chomsky to finish it off. (MR)(Heartattack #32)
The Brycc House Benefit CD - This comp was something out of the blue; a benefit to raise money for the Brycc House, a youth run center intended to be a permanently autonomous zone based on DIY principles. A whole range of bands and artists are on here from Submission Hold, In Dk, Mike Park, Chumbawamba, Harum Scarum, the Star Death, and more; all to support a cause that's more than worthy and an idea that I'd really like to see spread to other places. Should you get this? You know the answer to that. (The Trouble With Normal #50)
The Brycc House Benefit CD - Opening with a creepy recording of scanning the radio band and picking up dead air (an oxymoron!) and closing with a sound bite of Chomsky reminding an audience of the importance of public radio, this CD is a great comp that runs the gamut of rock sounds that plague the East Coast. A benefit compilation for the Bardstown Road Youth Cultural Center, a youth-run community center that includes various classes, a library, theatre and radio station, this comp features Chumbawamba, Of Asaph, De La Hoya, Ill Eagle, the Sissies, and Mike Park, as well as 18 other bands. From acoustic ditties about Japanese girls to power violence against police brutality, this is a great collection. Any time you can lend aid to an alternative zone of autonomy run on a consensus base, support should go without question. On principle alone, pick this up. (GBS) (Punk Planet #51)
